K-12 Enrollment in NJ Jewish Schools Rises Sharply in 2017-2018


31,376 students enrolled in Lakewood, New Jersey, Jewish schools grades Kindergarten through 12th for the current 2017-2018 school year. This is an increase of 2,020 students or almost 6.9% from a year earlier, and it is a spike of 10,448 students or 49.9% from 20,928 students five years ago; in the 2012-2013 school year. The data was compiled by the Orthodox Jewish Public Affairs Council (OJPAC) from stats made available by the New Jersey State Education Department.
?The growth in Jewish school enrollment in Lakewood over the last five years – in numerical and in percentage terms - easily outpaces Rockland county, which had the fastest growth among all counties in New York. Rockland added 7,436 students the last five years; an increase of 36.4% from the 2012-2013 school year. (Read the full New York Jewish Schools Enrollment report here.)
Passaic, New Jersey also saw considerable growth in recent years, growing from 2,579 students five years ago to 3,172 this year; a 23% increase. Bergen County has a robust Jewish community with students spread in districts across the county such as in Teaneck, Paramus, River Edge, Tenafly and in Englewood. In all, 5,971 students enrolled in Jewish schools in Bergen County for the current 2017-2018 school year; up from 5,843 last year.
